Bonda means “enough” in Trás-os-Montes. Enough of the same old places: stories, people and guides from the far north-east of Portugal.

Bragança from the hillside, the castle among the trees

Bonda! Shall we? Enough staying in. Away long enough? Come home. Bonda: enough, and a bond.

Trás-os-Montes is a place people leave and come back to. Nearly every family has someone in France, Switzerland, Lisbon or Porto, and everyone knows the pang of only coming home in August.

Bonda grew out of that homesickness. It’s a way of staying close: sharing the places, food, festivals and people of Trás-os-Montes with those who live here, those far away, and those who haven’t found it yet.

“Bonda” is how we say “enough” here, and it sounds a lot like “bond”. Enough of only seeing home on holiday: here you get a little bit of Bragança every week, and a letter once a month.

After the stories come the meetups, starting in summer and at Christmas 2027. And one day, if there’s enough interest, a place of our own in Bragança.
